After releasing her English/Japanese collaboration with Tokyo based band ‘Colobs’ earlier this year, Holly continues to break boundaries with her latest track ‘Not The Same’ whilst staying true to her singer/songwriter/piano girl roots.
Holly Terrens is known for being elegantly badass – whether she’s behind the piano playing epic prog melodies or standing with a microphone in hand, audiences can expect a musically dramatic and heartfelt performance.
This release is no exception, produced by Guy Cooper (Human Records, Seretonin Productions), working for the 2nd time with burgeoning filmographer Adrian Goleby as well as futurist, environmentalist Brisbane based fashion designer and dressmaker Jonathan Pampling – viewers can expect a disastrous storyline wrapped in whole lot of beautiful avant garde imagery.

This single stays true to Terrens’ core musical integrity, which popular online blog Heavy and Weird describes as :“The sound of Holly Terrens is not purely a nostalgia trip because she also leans equally on more modern pop music icons like St Vincent, Julia Holter and Anna Calvi who are all artists that manage to occupy a unique place within the current lexicon because of the way they make immediate yet challenging music.”Â

Terrens piqued the interest of UK’s Prog Magazine who described her as the ‘talented progressive pop singer/songwriter from Brisbane’ and ’this is what Radiohead’s Thom Yorke might sound like if he had been born female!’. This followed hot on the heels of her guest appearance on piano and flute on the Caligula’s Horse track “Dragonfly”, from the progressive rock titan’s critically-acclaimed third album Bloom.
Terrens will be returning to Japan later this year, accompanied by Goleby (who in his “other life” as a guitarist for Irukandji and bassist for Arcane is a very exciting recent addition to Holly’s band lineup), where they will record new music with producer D.D. (Colobs), perform live and produce more video content.
Holly is playing a solo show at Ric’s on June 5 for Oxfams Annual Trailwalker Event – she will be raising money and walking 100kms for the cause. Come down and say hi!
The first single from the new Being Jane Lane debut EP is out, along with the announcement of an East Coast tour.
I met these guys at a Brisbane show and loved the sound and decided to produce an EP for them. Had a lot of fun and made some great sounding tracks, they always bring so much energy to what they do. (www.serotoninproductions.com)
